From the office of Mayor George Schloegel

Tomorrow is the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk at the Veterans Affairs property and I want to congratulate our team here at City Hall and all of our city employees who helped to raise nearly $12,000.

I want to thank people like Councilwoman Libby Milner-Roland and Councilman Rusty Walker who climbed into a dunking booth and Councilman R.Lee Flowers who was auctioned off and went to work with a crew installing pipe along one of our roadways.

Also, I want to thank all of our citizens and businesses who have dedicated their time and energy to making this event so great.

Cardiovascular diseases are among the top causes of death in the United States, the leading cause of disability and death in Mississippi, the Heart Walk is great way for you to help fight this killer.

Elsewhere in our city, we will begin making site preparations on Monday to widen Three Rivers Road to three lanes, each way, from Prudie Circle to Windsong subdivision.

The county will eventually widen the road from Windsong to O’Neal Road and an agreement with the private sector will take the widening the rest of the way to Highway 49.

This work will be inconvenient, and for that I apologize, but nevertheless the work is needed desperately. And when it is complete, I trust that you will find the finished product to have been well worth the wait.

A similar plan is in motion to widen Dedeaux Road. We have held several community meetings to help spread the word about the project, and still, we plan to hold additional meetings in the near future.

We have posted a link on our website that will allow residents to send questions about the project directly to those involved in the work. The questions will be answered in an email sent directly to the citizen’s inbox.

If you have a question about the Dedeaux Road project, give it try.

Good luck to our Admirals and Red Rebels who play each other tonight at Harrison Central. Enjoy yourself at the Heart Walk tomorrow and I hope to see you there. Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,

George Schloegel
Mayor
