From the office of Mayor George Schloegel
Fall is in the air and that means football, cooler weather and pumpkins. It also means that we are coming to the end of the grass-cutting season.
We would like to use this edition of City Line to issue a citywide call to every property owner in Gulfport. We are urging you all to glance over your properties and use the beautiful weather to get outside for one final grooming of weeds, trees, shrubs and lawns that will sustain us until the spring.
Next month we expect to open Gulfport’s new Environmental Court, which will respond to abuses against our quality of life, such as neglected and eyesore properties.
But we hope that every citizen of Gulfport will join us in this cause and take pride in their individual properties before the Environmental Court has to step in.
During the campaign this summer we said that to move Gulfport forward it would take all of us working together, collectively as one force carrying this great city into the future.
Each of us has a small part to play in the resurrection of this southern jewel we know as home. You can do your part by cleaning your own properties. You can bet I will be doing the same at my house.
You know, 22 times throughout our history men have come before me to hold this sacred office of mayor.
Each one of those mayors had a vision, a specific direction of where they wanted to take our city.
And although each one had different goals and faced different challenges, they all shared a common belief that the future of our great city was bright, and that each day would always be better than the last.
In that way, I am not at all unlike them. I too believe that great things are ahead for Gulfport. What we have already accomplished, as a people, breeds optimism and hope for what we can accomplish tomorrow.
If you know someone—a neighbor, a relative or a coworker—who might not get this message, please pass it on to them. Encourage them to join our team by pitching in around their homes this weekend and in the weeks ahead.
Sincerely,
George Schloegel
Mayor
