Alan Weatherford was appointed as Chief of Police on February 06, 2006. Chief Alan Weatherford was born in Gulfport, MS and graduated from Gulfport High School in 1984.
Chief Weatherford received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Mississippi. He received his Associates degree in Liberal Arts from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Jefferson Davis Campus.
Chief Weatherford joined the Gulfport Police Department in 1987. He’s worked in several positions to include Dispatcher in the Communications Division in 1987 and Patrol, starting March 1988.
Chief Weatherford graduated from the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute located on the University of Southern Mississippi, Long Beach Campus, in 1988. Chief Weatherford’s extensive Law Enforcement training also include graduating the Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course, 102nd Session, in Louisville, Kentucky in 1999; and the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, Virginia in March 2002.
Chief Weatherford’s seventeen year service includes promotions to Patrol Officer in March 1988; Sergeant on July 7, 1993; Lieutenant on May 18, 1998; District Captain on April 3, 2000; Officer-in-Charge, Uniformed Patrol Division on June 10, 2002; and Commander of Operations on February 05, 2004.
Chief Weatherford’s duty performance has earned him several distinctive awards to include the VFW Patrolman of the Year for 1990 and 1991; American Legion Auxiliary, Officer of the Year for 2000. In 1992, The State of Mississippi recognized Chief Weatherford for his efforts in protecting children and the prevention of drunk driving during Operation Save.
